In an effort to encourage the community to take part in action that promotes respect and recognition for the rights of individuals with a mental handicap the Committee for the Protection of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities has held certain competitions. The competitions are announced through the media.

The following competitions were held in the past:

(i) Short story competition, 2000. (in Greek)
(ii) Competition for best drawing, 2000.
(iii) Competition for creating the most original teaching material in Primary and Sean day, 2001
(iv) Competition for the best logo for the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People with a Mental Handicap, 2004.
