Duties

The main duties of the Committee for the Protection of People with Intellectual Disabilities,  as stated in article 6 of the 117/89 and amendment 11(I)/2018, are as follows:

(i) Registering all persons with an intellectual disability and maintaining a record of the type of disability and any other information deemed necessary regarding each individual, their family and property.

(ii) Continuous monitoring of the issues and problems faced by persons with an intellectual disability and their families and compiling reports and plans of action to resolve these.

(iii) Monitoring all actions and decisions made by any departments, officials, organizations and persons regarding the issues faced by persons with an intellectual disability.

(iv) Design of programmes, in collaboration with the relevant state services, in order to promote the rights of persons with an intellectual disability and prioritizing each of these based on the need for the programme and the cost of implementing it.

(v) Registering all institutions and services dealing with person with an intellectual disability.
(vi) Inspecting and evaluating, in coordination with the relevant state departments, any institution or venue in which persons with an intellectual disability reside or are employed in and compiling the necessary reports.

(vii) Monitoring the employment, education, accommodation and overall welfare of persons with an intellectual disability.

(viii) Providing support to persons with an intellectual disability and their families.

(ix) Offering guidance regarding the provision and availability of services for persons with an intellectual disability.

(x) Maintaining statistical data and other information concerning persons with an intellectual disability.

(xi) Maintaining a list of trustees to handle property belonging to persons with an intellectual disability..
